AYSO United Program

AYSO United Program

AYSO United is AYSO’s official Club program. Our club allows players to enjoy more advanced play, participate in intense competition and receive cutting-edge training while still enjoying the benefits of AYSO and its Six Philosophies. AYSO United models its program under U.S. Soccer’s Zone 1 initiatives that falls directly under our “Development over Winning” approach.

AYSO United players will be selected through a tryout, but once on the team each player will be guaranteed 50 percent playing time. All AYSO United players, will play at least half of every game, have coaches that follow AYSO’s coaching philosophies, will practice exemplary good sportsmanship and will have advanced player development opportunities to grow in a challenging environment.

AYSO United offers the most competitive level of play available through AYSO and gives participants an opportunity in Region 274 to compete against other HYSA Club Teams (Rush, Surf, Kona Crush, Wolfpack, etc).

AYSO United FAQs

What is AYSO Hawaii United Club?
AYSO United Hawaii is the official club program of AYSO, allowing players who have the skills and abilities, to play against other youth soccer organizations (non-AYSO) within a club gaming circuit, without compromising the AYSO philosophies or our commitment to enriching children’s lives that makes AYSO unique among all youth sports organizations.

What is Club Soccer?
Club Soccer is the most competitive level of play where players tryout for teams and compete against other club teams within a club gaming circuit.

How is AYSO United different than AYSO’s Core and EXTRA programs?
AYSO United’s primary difference is that each team is formed through a formal try-out process and will compete in U.S. Club or USYS gaming circuits, which are external of AYSO game rules.

How is AYSO United different from other club soccer programs?
What makes AYSO United different from other clubs is our Six Philosophies and the integrity of staying within those Philosophies. Our teams aren’t motivated by large rosters and a win at all costs mentality. If a player is selected to play for AYSO United, the coach will strive to ensure that a players receives 50 percent playing. AYSO United Coaches will focus on developmental training philosophies which falls in line with our U.S. Soccer approved curriculum. U.S. Soccer’s Zone 1 initiatives fall directly in line with AYSO’s “Development over Winning” approach to our club program. No other clubs can boast these credentials. We want to win…but respect and appreciate the entire process of competition.

Who runs the AYSO United Hawaii program?
AYSO United Hawaii is a local based program, and is part of a National program that is managed and operated at the National level by a National Director. AYSO United Hawaii will be run by a local club director who is responsible for the coach selection and team formation.

Can anyone tryout?
Yes, anyone can tryout. However, parents should be aware that team spaces are limited in club and teams will not be formed based on numbers of tryout participants. Players who do not make the club team can still participate in the AYSO Core Program or EXTRA Program if available. Tryouts are normally held in June, but players may be added to the team based on need throughout the year.

Will the United Coach be allowed to select players?
Two or more neutral evaluators will be used, in addition to the coach.

What does my making the team mean to me?
Players selected for United are encouraged to participate with their Core or Extra / Select Teams, however there may be games and tournaments where there is a conflict. Due to fines imposed by club soccer for teams forfeiting games, emphasis should be given to the AYSO United team

Who coaches the team?
AYSO United Teams will be coached by those who continue to believe in our six philosophies, who have completed their certification in Safe Haven and CDC Concussion Awareness and also have the age appropriate AYSO and HYSA coach certifications.

How long is the season?
Club season will be a year round commitment. Typically teams will play in the Fall season (mid August – mid-November) and spring season (late February - early May).  AYSO United participants are eligible to participate in various HYSA tournaments such as the Thanksgiving & President's Day State Cup as well as AYSO tournaments like Kirk Banks, Rainbow, and the locally held Volcano Tournament . Training is year round with a break usually over Summer (July) and Christmas (December).

How often do the teams train?
Teams will train a minimum of twice a week during the peak season, however there may be additional training requirements (goalkeeper) (Speed and agility). Typically, after the spring and fall teams may reduce to once a week to give players a recovery period. Practices can range from 1-2 hours depending on the age of the players.

When are Club games?
Typically Saturdays with off chance of a Sunday game.

What ages are the teams?

Club soccer follows US Soccer’s mandates of calendar birth year so a player will play for their year of birth. For example if your hild is born in 2006 your team will be the 2006 Team (12U).

How much will it cost?
AYSO United Hawaii players will pay an initial start up of approximately $300. The fees will cover the following: Two Complete Game Uniforms, Training kit including two practice shirts, one pair shorts, HYSA Club Fee, AYSO Club and Membership Fees, insurance. If the team chooses to participate in any tournaments those fees would be in addition to the initial fees listed above.  Based upon the interest of the team fundraising may be used to offset the costs of additional fees such as tournaments.

What benefits will AYSO United members receive?
Being part of the official AYSO United club means you’re a member of “The World’s Biggest Soccer Club.” As a member of AYSO United you are part of a program that is committed to Player Development, Coaching Education and an affiliate member of U.S. Soccer.

What can we expect in the future from AYSO United?
AYSO United will see tremendous growth as a program while developing some of the top players and teams in its respective locations. Our coaches will be tremendous role models and teachers to our players and our Directors of Coaching will foster a community experience to ensure everyone associated with AYSO is proud of the United program.
