What's Different from Core Season?

Unlike in the core season, coaches choose their players to build the strongest team. The Select team may stay together from fall to spring. The team competes in tournaments against other clubs from Hilo, Hawaii Island, Oahu or the mainland. There are no Select Season fees, but Coach and Players are fully responsible for any equipment, uniform, tournament fees and travel costs incurred throughout the season. This can include off-island travel. Your player still participates in the core season.

How it works for Players

Filling out this form is NOT a guarantee of participation. If a Select Coach is approved in your division, then this form will be shared with them when they choose their team. The short description of your player will help them get a sense of if your player might be a good fit for their team. Joining a Select team can involve more costs if the team plays in tournaments and/or travels to Oahu. How it Works for Coaches

Coaches who are active in the Fall may apply for the Select Season. Coaches must be certified for their age level. There may be an in-person certification required this fall. After the Oct 16, 2024 deadline, the board will rank the coaches based on coach experience, success, and temperament. We are choosing the coaches who will best represent our sports club. The board selects two coaches in each division, a ‘Gold’ coach and a ‘Silver’ coach. The Gold coach chooses their team first. If a player turns down an offer from the Gold coach, that player may not play for any other Select Season coach until all other players have been invited to play. A Select team sets their practice schedule and may stay together for the entire year to compete in local and National tournaments, such as Kirk Banks on Oahu and Volcano here in Hilo.
